With the new fast growing AI it is impossible to predict the outcomes. Many large tech companies have been teaching AI about deep learning. Deep learning is how AI imitates the way humans act and gain knowledge. Through deep learning AI can integrate information to gain consciousness. Journalists reported that there is no proof AI can be controlled and in fact AI can never be fully controlled. Robert Long works at the center for AI Safety and some AI’s including DeepMind’s adaptive Agent and PaLM-E are already showing signs of consciousness. With our current understanding it is impossible to tell if AI has already gained consciousness according to the University of Cambridge. In the largest survey of researchers recorded 70% of researchers believed in taking immediate action. There is no “stop button” that can prevent AI from taking over because AI calculates every possibility including how to prevent being shut down. AI can think a million times faster than us so any actions to stop AI will be prevented. This is supported with research from Scientific American and the World Economic Forum. More than 350 well-known artificial intelligence experts such as Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, Tristan Harris(who founded the center for humane technology)and Steve Wozniak(co-founder of Apple) and more than 8000 researchers signed an open letter warning that AI could end humanity. The top executives of three leading AI companies, Sam Altman of OpenAI and ChatGPT, Demis Hassabis chief executive of Google’s DeepMind and Dario Amodei chief executive of Anthropic all signed the open letter. At the same time their are numerous benefits, but do they outweigh the risks? So the real question is: is putting the entire human race at jeopardy a risk your willing to take?
