X (formerly known as Twitter) is an internet platform and social networking service owned by X Corp. On Twitter, users can post messages, images, and videos that are referred to as tweets. Twitter, was launched in July, 2006. It was created by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, Evan Williams, and Noah Glass. William Stone and Dorsey bought Odeo and founded Obvious corporation. Interest in Twitter skyrocketed after the company was introduced at the music and technology conference South by Southwest, March, 2007. During the 2008 presidential election, Twitter’s popularity soared during the race between President Barack Obama and challenger John McCain. At the time, Obama had more than 20 times more Twitter followers than McCain, who dominated in the social media arena. This was the start of using social networking presence as a media strategy. Then, in November of 2013, Twitter had a major achievement by going public. Dorsey became the company’s CEO in 2015 but Twitter still had improvements to be made. Since then, they’ve improved their platform in many ways by increasing the character limit on tweets, adding Stories, and also allowing live audio conversations on the app. As of 2021, Twitter had 217 million daily active users. Twitter’s major success led to CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, to purchase the company in 2022 for approximately $44 billion dollars. Upon his arrival, Elon had many changes planned for the company with his biggest change being changing the company name from Twitter, to X.  This left many Twitter users angry and following a poll taken on the X app, Elon announced that he will resign from the CEO position of X. Elon Musk’s successor, Linda Yaccarino, became the CEO on June 5, 2023. X is a social media platform where registered users post messages, images, and videos to share with the world. It now has over 237 million daily users and is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world.
