Fact #1: Food Tastes Different When You Are Eating It On A Plane
Have you ever been on a plane? If you have, you might have noticed that food tastes a little different. This is because as the plane rises, certain factors like humidity and pressure change. This makes the taste and smell of food differ slightly than when on land.
Fact #2: Applesauce Was The First Food Eaten In Space
Did you know applesauce was the very first food to be eaten in space? It’s liquid state of matter makes it easier to eat with no gravity. It was eaten in 1962 by John Glenn during the Friendship 7 flight. To prepare the applesauce, the mixture was put in toothpaste tubes to get it ready for zero gravity.
Fact #3: Potatoes Were The First Food Planted In Space
Did you know potatoes were the very first food to be planted in space? Special technology to plant food in space was created in 1995. The system uses lighting and nutrients to make the plant inside grow. Surprisingly, growing food in outerspace is working really well. Other plants have also been tried, such as red lettuce and white flowers.
