What is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a 6 episode series viewable on Disney+. This short Marvel series brings up many questions about power and morals as well as gives fans a sneak peek at Marvel’s Phases 4 and 5. This shows stars two somewhat neglected superheros: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier and Sam Wilson/Falcon. This show is fully action unlike WandaVision, another Disney+ short Marvel Series.

Spoiler Alert:

A Marvel SuperFan View

The plot of the series was that the old Cap gave Sam the Captain America shield. Sam gave the shield to the government hoping it would go to a museum or something. Instead, they gave it to a soldier named John Walker the new “Captain America”. A group called the Flag Smashers led by Karli Morgenthau wanted to help all the refugees from the Blip. As the show goes on they become more radical. Sam and Bucky try to stop the Flag Smashers and John Walker is always there trying to help. In the last episode Sam becomes Captain America with a new vibranium suit made by the Wakandans. Sharon Carter (aka agent 13) is revealed to be the Power Broker, but no one knows except the audience. Karli is killed by at the end by Sharon. The end credit shows Sharon talking to someone on the phone saying that now they have access to government secrets. This show opens up lots of paths for Marvel to go with and New Rockstars explains that in the Youtube video.

The Engineering View

The CGI done for The Falcon and Winter Soldier was rushed. In Marvel’s Endgame they had a large budget and ample time. Because of the pandemic the Falcon and the Winter Soldier was pushed back and rushed. In Endgame CGI was used to make Thanos, Hulk, and a lot of the set. In The Falcon and Winter Soldier they used CGI to make Falcon’s wings, and spent a lot of time on it. They also used a stunt double for Anthony Mackie (Falcon). Many fans have spotted mistakes in the CGI but overall Marvel did a good h=job making the series in such a limited timeline.

The Government System, Power, and Morals View:

In the last episode Sam spoke to congress members on live TV. He spoke about how the government systems across the world were corrupt and hurting people. He talked about how the Flag Smashers were trying to help people that were underprivileged. This is a good reflection of how the US could help better support refugees and the lower-class. The show also brings up racism. They talk about how Black people have been abused even in modern day. Isaiah Bradley tells a story of how as a Black man who had the super soldier serum he was tested upon and treated horribly. Also in the last episode there is now a black Capitan America and people are shocked. This is a good throwback to how blacks were and are mistreated in this country.
