The principle known as buoyancy, derived from Archimedes' Principle, explains why boats float. Buoyancy is the upward force exerted by a fluid on an object submerged. It states that when an object is partially or fully immersed into a liquid, the upward force or buoyant force exerted on the body is equal to the weight of the fluid which that body displaces.
