Dr. Con Slobodchikof has been studying prairie dogs for more than 30 years and has developed an algorithm to turn the sounds from the prairie dogs into English. He even founded a company called Zoolingua that will try to translate the sounds and behavior of pets into English.
Having the technology to communicate with animals could help us in many other ways as well. It could help farmers and ranchers identify sickness in the flock, or stop dogs from being euthanized.
