On February 11, Duo, known as the Duoling Owl, was said to be dead. The company sent the message on X, which said, ” It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Duo, formally known as The Duolingo Owl, is dead. ” It also said the cause of death would be found and soon told. Soon, it was said that Duo died from a Cypertruck car crash. On February 17, Duolingo came back from the dead, saying legends never die.
This all was for marketing, so more people talked about the app to make people download the app to see what was happening. The Duo stocks went up high, and many people were talking about it. They changed the app icon so it showed Duo dead, and after he came back from the dead the app icon changed to show he got resurrected. This marketing worked very well to get people’s attention but it also made lots of people mad because of what they were doing for money.
