What Is This New AI And Why Does This AI Matter?

MedAware, the name of this new AI can find prescription mistakes doctors give to patients. Each year in the U.S about 7,000–9,000 people die because of some medication error like doctors prescribing the wrong drug, or doctors overprescribing opioids. The total cost of all of these medication mistakes is more than $40 billion a year. Although now with a system like MedAware, many live could saved and billions of dollars won’t go down the drain in the future.

Backstory

MedAware was made by its CEO,  Gidi Stein. Gidi Stein was inspired to make this AI when he heard that a 9 year old boy died because his doctor accidentally selected the wrong drug on an electronic prescribing pull-down menu.

How MedAware’s Program works

MedAware’s program looks through the prescription patterns of thousands of physicians to flag when a medication may be different from the profile of the doctor, the patient or the medical institution. In short, The program looks for problems in the prescription and tells us about it.
