Have you ever wondered if it is possible to detect Covid via a wearable device? Well, recently, Apple has figured out a way to reveal COVID-19 symptoms with their watches.

Heart Rate Variability
One way Apple watches detect Covid is by measuring heart rate. This is known as heart rate variability, which is the time between one heartbeat and the next. Usually, people infected with the virus have a lower heart rate variation than people that are healthy. Unfortunately, there are some downsides to this. Some people might have another condition other than Covid that causes them to have an abnormal heart rate variability. This would create a false alarm by the watch.
Nervous System Disruption
Another way that Apple watches reveal COVID-19 symptoms is by observing the cardiovascular system and nervous system. The watch then compares this with that of an average, healthy person, which enables it to detect the virus. However, just like with the heart rate variability method, the watch could set off false alarms. Some people that do not have the virus suffer from cardiovascular diseases, which also indicates a disruption in the nervous system.
