Scientists have discovered the most Earth-like exoplanet. The exoplanet is Kepler-452b.

It is located in the habitable zone of a star like our sun. Kepler-452b is the first exoplanet orbiting a star that is nearly the same size and temperature as the Sun. It orbits at practically the same distance from its star as Earth does from our sun. Kepler-452b receives just 10 percent more solar energy than Earth, since its host star is older than the Sun. Kepler-452b is slightly hotter than Earth.The planet’s host star is about 1.5 billion years older than the 4.5-billion-year-old Sun.

Kepler-452b has been in the habitable zone for around six billion years. Meaning Kepler-452b much older than Earth.

Kepler-452b orbits around its host star once every 385 days; close to Earth’s 365-day year. The similarities are uncanny.

Kepler-452b is approximately 60 percent wider than Earth. It’s considered a super-Earth. The distance between Earth and Kepler-452b is 1,400 light years.

Conditions on Kepler-452b could be like circumstances here on Earth. Scientists don’t know if Kepler-452b is a rocky planet, but it’s most likely a rocky planet. It is likely that Kepler-452b will hold on to any oceans it may have for a longer period. Scientists also believe it could have a thick cloud cover and very active volcanoes.
