Chipotles is partnering with VEBU to test there all new prototype, the Autocado. The Autocado is Chipotle’s new avocado prepping robot. Chipotle is testing the robot to see if it can help workers make guacamole quicker. It takes workers an average of fifty minutes to make a batch of guacamole. The Autocado does it in half the time (25 minutes). The Autocado cuts, cores and peels avocados before a human worker mashes them into guacamole. The Autocado is currently being tested at Chipotle Cultivate Center in Irvine, California.
The steps the Autocado takes
- A worker loads the Autocado with a full case of ripe avocados and selects the size setting. Autocado can hold up to 25 lbs of avocados per use.
- One at a time, avocados are vertically oriented, then transferred to the processing device.
- The avocados are cut in half. Their cores and skin are taken out into waste.
- The fruit is safely gathered in a stainless-steel bowl at the base of the device.
- A worker then removes the bowl of avocados and moves it to the counter where additional ingredients are incorporated and is hand mash to make Chipotle’s signature guacamole.
