What is architecture?
Architecture is the study and practice of designing buildings, communities, structures, and other elements that shape the built environment.
Architecture is the art and technique of conceiving, designing, and constructing buildings and habitats for people, such as homes and memorials, work, or recreational spaces. It is based on three fundamental principles: beauty, strength, and functionality.
What does an architect do?
An architect is a person who designs buildings and other structures and prepares drawings and instructions on how to build them, known as construction documents. In the United States, most buildings larger than a house or barn require the services of an architect.
To become an architect, you must earn a degree in architecture, gain experience working for a licensed architect, and pass a national exam known as the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®).
Why is architecture important?
Architecture is essential to society because it provides our physical environment. It also expresses human civilization over time and remains, like monuments, for future generations to study.
