As you may know there are many animals living on Earth. But have you ever wondered how scientist classify all the different animals into different groups. Scientists have many ways to classify living organisms but the main way that is used across the world is a way that classifies them down to specific organisms. This classification method uses 8 levels of classification know as domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family genus, species. This method lets scientists classify animals based on certain physicals characteristic.
Classifying animals and living organisms in general is important for scientist to do because it can help them when figuring out later which animal is which, and if they discovering a new species it can help them figure out which family to put it in. When a new species is discovered scientist will first look at which animals have similar physical characteristics as the new animal, and now with the new technology of DNA testing scientists can now narrow down to exactly which group the new species should be placed in.
Classification of animals have changed a lot over the past hundred years as we’ve gotten back technologys and learned how to study characteristics better, and maybe someday in the future we could have a groundbreaking discovery and the classification of animals as we know it today could change.
