Who is she?
Her name was Florence Griffith-Joyner, and she was an American athlete and does track. In 1988 she won first place in the 100m women’s United States Olympic trial in Seoul, South Korea. She ran the 100m in only 10.49 seconds in. That is the fastest a female could run in a 100m race. She was born on December 21, 1959, in Los Angeles, California. She lived with her eleven siblings and parents. She was very athletic since she was a young girl. She started doing track when she was 7 years old. And in high school she was the anchor for the relay team. She had a gift of speed, and she did not let it go to waste.
She went to California State University, Northridge to continue track and field. She then went to UCLA, University of California in Los Angeles, because a man named Bob Kersee a sprinting coach asked if she wanted to go to UCLA so he could train her, and she said yes. Bob kersee was her coach and helped her get faster. She married a man named Alfrederick Joyner in 1987, he was an athlete to0. They had a daughter in 1990 and named her Mary Ruth Joyner. In Florence’s years of competing, she won three Olympic gold medals and two silver medals. So that in total is 5 Olympic medals that she won.
She sadly died at 38 on September 21, 1998. She died in her sleep; the cause was an epileptic seizure. Florence Griffith is buried at the El Toro Memorial Park in Lake Forest. Her 100m record still has not been beat, she is still the fastest woman in history.
