F. Patrick Sher, Stephen Doughtery, and Jack Koplin. You might just know them as some random people. But they would probably start one of the biggest office retail stores being Office Depot which would came out as one of the “big 3” in the office retail market usually being #3 but in the market. But it would come out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. And are competing with other small companies and soon after they would merge with one of there rivals Office Club in 1991. Expand to Mexico in 1995 and in 2001 they would expand to Central America, And also expand to Europe and Australia markets via direct mail markets in 1998 by getting Viking Direct.
During 1997 Office Depot almost merged with Staples but was blocked. Though in 2005 they would get into NASCAR by being the main sponsor of the number 99 of Roush Racing and in 2009 they would move from main sponsor to sub sponsor of the number 14 of Stewart-Hass Racing which was driven by Tony Stewart. They wouldn’t renew after the 2012 season. And also in 2012 they would support the Born this way Foundation by giving office supplies to them and giving 25% of the earnings that Office Depot got would go to the Born this way foundation. Though in 2012 they would buyout and merge with Office Max to make the biggest Office supply retailer in the world but now that’s more or less a downgrade as they have to pay more debts. And lose money to Amazon as there the more convenient option
Though now a days Office Depot is struggling to survive as companies like Amazon, Staples and ebay are becoming more convenient so to due they would diversify there shelves by expanding with new products in there, they would that bybuying companies who have a history of something(Like for a example by out some one who has a history of electronics) and using those companies. Office Depot would put them in there shelves to diversify what they have and not be known as a “Office Store” but be known as a “Office Super Store”
