In sports, there are many injuries that occur. Some people may get a sprained ankle from a tackle, a concussion from ramming into someone’s head, or a broken arm from blocking a punch. However, these injuries are almost impossible to predict, until now. With new-found technology, doctors and engineers have been able to create devices that can predict possible injuries.
This new technology are wearable sensors and GPS tracking devices. These devices are able to analyze the user’s health and training load which can help doctors determine when a player is developing a risk for injury. Additionally, the tools are able to determine errors in the player’s performance which can reduce risk of injury. For example, if a professional soccer player is shooting a ball incorrectly, scientists can look at data and make alternations to how the player shoots to reduce potential risks. Fortunately, these devices can be easily implanted into the user’s shirt, shoes, pants, and body. These devices make it easy for doctors to determine risks for athletes that could potentially ruin their career.
Another device that has been created that helps prevent injuries is a device that is put into the helmet. This new tool is put into the helmet to provide cushion for the head when impacted by another helmet. Additionally, just like the wearable sensors and GPS tracking devices, the helmet provides information to the doctor after each impact of a hit. This is because there are sensors inside the foam that can help data researches have a deeper look into the player’s brain which can be important in reviewing for potential risks. Furthermore, it provides basic information like acceleration, impact, and velocity to the athletes and their coaches to try to prevent head injuries. This device is specifically used to try to prevent concussions from headbutts.
Wearable sensors, GPS tracking devices, and a wearable cushion. All of these devices provide essential information to prevent potential injuries that could ruin an athlete’s careers.
