Our bodies of water are very littered with plastic. It kills so many animals every year. When in the ocean it is trash, but you are able to turn it into a brand new thing to buy. Many brands like 4ocean, Patagonia, and more, take plastic out of our oceans and use it to make their products. Brands who do this are great because then end up taking plastic out of the ocean, making new products for consumers to buy, and making money from it. It’s a win for everyone.

Why else should we recycle ocean plastic?

• Reduces our carbon footprint

– If we use the same plastic as we have before it reduces our carbon footprint because we don’t have to use factories to manufacture plastic as we need it.

• Reduces landfills

-Since we use the same plastic already used, there is less trash to fill up the already depleting space for landfills.

• Creates jobs

– There needs to be people in every step of reusing ocean plastic. People need to take it out of the ocean, sort it, clean it, and remake it to what the product is. These would create jobs for people to do these tasks.

• Reduces greenhouse gasses

– This reduces greenhouse gasses by easing the amount of fossil fuel needed. When we use fossil fuels we release greenhouse gasses. When we reuse plastic from the ocean it takes less fossil fuel than if you didn’t recycle it.

• Causes less reliance on fossil fuels

-This causes less reliance on fossil fuels because we  not use them nearly as much. It might help us make the jump towards renewable energy.

• Helps in conserving natural resources

-Since natural resources are limited, if we don’t use them for plastic, they can be saved for what they are required for.

• Saves energy

– It saves energy to recycle plastic because it takes less energy to renew used plastic than to replace it.
