Solar Panels At LJMS

How LJMS is Harnessing the Power of the Sun for Energy

Solar panels are the future of our electricity.  It is time to say goodbye to the non-eco-friendly energy sources of today’s day and age. Popular energy sources like natural gas (fossil fuels), coal, and nuclear energy are all nonrenewable. This means that they can run out of it at some point. They also release greenhouse gases which are the gases that get caught in the atmosphere and cause climate change. Now if we instead use solar panels this will solve many problems that are caused by the other sources of electricity.

Luther Jackson Middle School is currently working on this problem. They have installed a panel that has been installed since December 19th, 2022, and it has been providing solar energy since then.  This solar panel is currently being used as a measuring station. The plan is to see how much power we actually are getting from the solar panel. A common downfall of solar panels is how much energy they actually produce. LJMS will be conducting an experiment to see how much electricity is being produced by them. The solar collector has a web-based graphical interface allowing students at neighboring elementary schools to study and experience the environmental impacts of generating sunlight into energy. This experiment will help to better understand if solar panels are able to power the school.
