It is common to find millions people that have an medical issue concerning their eyesight.  The most common eye condition of someone’s eye is nearsightedness (myopia.)  Most people fix these eye issues by wearing eye glasses, contacts, or doing Lasix. However, scientists and engineers have created contacts that are able to temporarily remold someone’s cornea to improve one’s eyesight.  These contacts are called Ortho-K contacts.

Ortho-k contacts are typically worn to prevent the progression of worsening eye issues such as myopia and hyperopia.  This is because glasses assist someone with hyperopia or myopia, but their eye condition continues to worsen.  Additionally, as someone’s eye condition intensifies, they have to gradually wear thicker and thicker lenses.

Ortho-K contact lenses help someone’s eyesight by temporarily reshaping your cornea.  The cornea is the part of your eye that focuses on light which allows your eye to focus.  Another feature of the cornea is the flexibility of its tissue, meaning its able to reshape easily.  Therefore, when wearing the Ortho-K contacts, the contacts are able to flatten out the center of one’s cornea, which alters how light is bent as it enters your eye.  These are worn during the night and are taken off when the wearer wakes up.

The contacts are to be continuously worn in order to prevent the user’s cornea from returning to the original shape.  If someone were to stop wearing the contacts for several days in a row, then their cornea will return to its original state.  Therefore, the refractive issue with the wear’s eyes will return, preventing them from seeing properly.  Furthermore, the user will have to wear glasses or another type of object that helps fix eye issues during the day.

Ortho-K contacts is technology that is able to help people have fixed eyesight while not having to wear day-contacts or glasses.  Additionally, it can prevent further damage to the eye condition that the person has.  Ortho-K contacts are easy to buy because of their prevalence in the U.S. and because it is reusable until it breaks.  So, if you want a pair for yourself, go to your local eye store and buy a pair of Ortho-K contacts for yourself!
