How A Toilet Flushes
How a toilet flushes in your own home.
If you were ever sitting on the pot and wondered how it works? Well, here it is.
First, you push the handle down which pulls a chain connected to the flapper up. The flapper is a circular disk that forms a seal around the drain valve. Next, the tank is drained and the water flows into the bowl. Then, the water carries the waste down the trap and down into the main drain. After that, the flapper closes forming a seal around the drain valve and the fill valve takes water from the main water supply and starts to fill the tank. This will take approximately three minutes and will use about 2 gallons of water. Finally, the float rises and stops any more water from going into the tank.
