Everyday, people lie a lot and get lied to a lot. These lies can be simple lies such as “I forgot my homework” or “I’m fine” or even “I like your jeans”. Although these lies aren’t that harmful, they still can be.

For a while now people have tried many things to “detect” lies, but none are fully reliable. However, there are many patterns and flaws that we can pick up on in lies. To pick up on these lies, we can use linguistic text analysis. Linguistic text analysis has found 4 patterns that commonly reside within lies. People often lie to try and make themselves seem like something better than they actually are. When they do this, they use different language patterns. The 4 patterns that linguistic text analysis are:

1, Liars refer to them less when making up a story. They can use 3rd person or talk about others but not that much about themselves. 2, When lying, people tend to be more negative. This is due to the fact that they subconsciously feel guilty and bad about lying. 3, If someone is lying, they will explain things in little detail. This is because our human brains have a harder time to create a whole story and especially under pressure. 4, Lastly, liars like to use longer sentence structures. Although they keep things simple, they often add little useless details and facts, or longer more complex words.

Although many of the lies we encounter on the daily basis is mostly harmless, remembering these patterns can help us avoid things like a bad relationship, scams, or even fake compliments.
