The History Of Chess
Everybody plays Chess. But very few people actually take the time to see how it has evolved.
One of the oldest and most well-known board games in the world, chess has a long and colorful history that dates back more than a thousand years. The roots of the game are unknown, however it is thought to have started as a game called chaturanga in India in the sixth century AD. On a board with four sections, each representing a separate branch of the military, an early version of chess was played. The game subsequently found its way to Europe after initially taking root in the Middle East, where it underwent considerable alterations and developed into what we know today. The introduction of the queen, who initially had restricted movement but steadily gained more power over the centuries, was one of the most important innovations to the game. This modification significantly affected the game’s strategy and contributed to the complexity and difficulty of the current chess game.
Chess has a long cultural past as well, with numerous notable players and competitions over the years. People from various social strata have appreciated it and played it in a variety of settings, from formal tournaments to casual games in parks and cafes. Millions of people play chess both offline and online now, showing how popular it still is. The International Olympic Committee recognizes it as a sport, and people of all ages and socioeconomic levels continue to enjoy it as a favorite past time and a source of intellectual challenge.
