The Invention of Hair Dye
Learn how this colorful formula was invented.
Hair dye… yes people love to dye their hair a lot not realizing it damages their hair. I know, I know, it looks good but that doesn’t mean you should dye your hair constantly. But where did this magical chemical come from?
The origins of hair dye
Most inventions are accidents and hair dye was one. While trying to find a cure for malaria, William Henry Perkin accidentally discovered dye. The first hair dye was made for ads in 1907. It was for the brand Aureole, which is now known as L’Oréal. In the mid and early 1900’s the hair colors got better and better. By the 1980-1990s there were a lot of bold colors to choose from to dye your hair.
Modern hair dye
Nowadays you can dye your hair with thousands of options and variety. You can go all out and choose crazy bright colors or stick with softer tones and natural hair colors. The cool thing is that not a lot of the original hair dye formula changed which is about over 110 years ago.
Hair dyeing in the future
Now think about it, how do you think hair dye in the future might be? Will there be more crazy colors? Will they make some that will not damage your hair? Will they completely change the formula?
