Have you ever wondered how many different kinds of locks there are and how to work them? Here are a few popular locks and how to use them.

1: Padlock

Padlocks are one of the most widely-used locks. They consist of the lock and 1 or more keys, depending on what is included in the package. The keys enter through the plug inside the lock. It then pushes the pins inside up into the grooves of the key. If it is not the correct key, the pins will not fall into the correct grooves and will not unlock the padlock.

2: Combination Lock

This circular lock can involve a key for emergencies, but the main difference from the padlock is a digital code. There are three numbers you have to remember for the code. You enter them by turning the moving part clockwise to the first number once, counterclockwise twice, and clockwise one more time.

3: Rim Latch Lock

This lock is most commonly found in apartment complexes. It consists of a cylinder on one side and a surface mount latch lock on the other. All you need to do to lock it is turn the lock one way to make the cylinder pop out into the door. These locks are not the strongest choice, but they can be paired with others for better support.

Depending on what you need the lock for, these are some really good choices if you need to lock a door, gate, or locker. I hope you learned a thing or two about locks!
