Fingerprint recognition and face recognition are two different authentication technologies that are used for security. Fingerprint recognition works by photographing ridges and valleys on the surface of a person’s finger. That image is then analyzed using pattern recognition to create a one of a kind digital model that represents a person’s fingerprint. When the person’s fingerprint is scanned, the digital pattern compares the fingerprint to the stored pattern so it can determine if the fingerprint is found. On the other hand, facial recognition works by analyzing features of a person’s face, such as the distance between the eyes, the shape of the nose and mouth, and bone structure. This analysis is done using computer vision algorithms that create a digital model of a person’s face. When the person’s face is scanned, the digital template is compared to the stored template to see if a match is found. Fingerprint and face recognition can potentially be a bad thing in the future though, due to the fact that they can be used for identity theft since they have biometric data. Another way biometric data can be abused is by deepfake technology, which can be used to frame people. There have already been many incidents of this, and many people don’t use face recognition because of it.
