What is Project Sekai?

Project SEKAI COLORFUL STAGE! is a rhythm game starting with vocaloid Hatsune Miku introducing you to what a “sekai” is, and how songs are born from them. You get to choose out of five groups: Leo/need, MORE MORE JUMP!, Vivid BAD SQUAD, Wonderlands x Showtime, and Nightcord at 25:00. The group chosen will have its introductory story play out, and you get to learn about the characters. You can unlock more stories as you level up their group rank, by playing with characters in their respectful group in Solo Lives or Multi Lives, the rhythm game aspect of the game.

The Rhythm Game

There are three types of notes in the game:

Tap notes, hold notes, and flick notes. Tap notes are self-explanatory, you simply tap them once they reach the “judgement line” (a line near the bottom of your screen where you need to tap at to get a perfect).

Hold notes are notes you need to hold down, and let go at their appropriate timings. They can move left and right across the judgement line as well.

Flick notes are a bit more complicated. You have to make a “flicking” motion with your finger, like swiping the note and then releasing your finger off the screen.

This gives the game a level of difficulty and enjoyment. There are 276 songs in-game at the time of writing, each song with 5 difficulties to play on, ranging from easy to master.

Improving your Score

After playing a song, you might see that you only got a C grade, even though you had good accuracy during the chart. Your score is heavily influenced by character cards. Starting the game, you only have two-star cards and one-star cards, which won’t be able to boost your score much. Alternatively, unlocking three-star and four-star cards will get you to your maximum potential score. You get to earn them through the gacha mechanic. During events, there will be limited-card banners, where certain four-star and three-star cards have a boosted rate (meaning you have a higher chance to get them than other cards). Each pull costs 300 crystals, and 10 pulls cost 3000 crystals with a guaranteed 3-star or higher. You can earn crystals by full comboing songs or reading event stories during its live period.

Training Cards

Once you’ve collected a good variety of cards, it’s time to learn how to upgrade them so you can get even higher scores. Cards can be levelled up through the character menu, and doing so increases their talent (meaning better scores). For 3-stars and 4-stars, once hitting their cap level, you must “train” them to increase their level cap. This also changes their card art, which can look more appealing than their untrained version.
