Hollow Knight: Silksong. A game that has been awarded one of the most anticipated games of all time, which Team Cherry (the developers of Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong) have revealed to hopefully be releasing it in June of 2023. In February of 2019, Team Cherry announced they were making a new Hollow Knight game, giving fans something new to bite on. For 3 years, they waited for the game to come out, dealing with fake release dates and the majority vote to sacrifice someone to them as a blood ritual would be perfect in savoring the needs of Team Cherry’s developing progress. Once Team Cherry released the date of the game’s release, the fans were given hope once more, their determination unwavering to play this godforsaken game. I am one of said fans. Now, without further adieu, I will now explain why I’m excited for Silksong, and hopefully I can convince you to be excited too.

Budget

“Hollow Knight is a game made on a shoestring budget…”

…says Graig, Team Cherry’s lead playtester. According to him, Hollow Knight was a heavily rushed game with the developers working way too much for way too long with way too little budget. Apparently, when they released the game, Ari Gibson and William Pellen (Team Cherry) had run out of money. It was a huge stroke of luck that they got so popular. Now that they have the people (and the money), Hollow Knight: Silksong could potentially be 10x better than what Hollow Knight ever was.

Stuff. Everyone loves stuff, especially new stuff. But new stuff that’s directly related to stuff you already like? Now we’re talking. Hollow Knight: Silksong provides tons of new gameplay mechanics, enemies, bosses, and most importantly, lore. Just from the trailers alone, we’re able to see tons of new abilities and mechanics in the game, such as a quest system and a completely new charm system that looks needlessly complicated– for me. Nonetheless, I’m still super excited to be completely stumped by the game, probably getting myself stuck in a nondescript hole filled with enemies that would kill me in 2 seconds.

Lore

Going back to lore, LORE! I’ve said the word lore so many times in my head that ‘lore’ doesn’t even sound like a word anymore. Anyway, Hollow Knight fans are pretty big on lore, whether you’ve played the entire game and found every piece of lore to make a comprehensible story, or you played the entire game and still didn’t know what was going on, you would have probably encountered a key piece of lore in the game’s story. I’m sure that Silksong’s lore would be just as good as- if not better than- Hollow Knight’s lore, and I’m sure us unstable, precarious gamers would eventually find a way to find every hidden secret in every nook and cranny in the game.

Character Designs & Animation

A thing I very much appreciated in Hollow Knight is the enemy’s hand-drawn artstyle and how the animation was apparently made in PHOTOSHOP. The characters look a little cutesy, but when the time comes, you will be able to encounter seriously gross looking bugs within the world, and it’s all thanks to the attention-to-detail of the character’s characteristics. Take the Flukemon. This worm looking thing is kinda weird, with the random hole on its face and elongated body, but the small little hands overrule these traits. On the other hand, how it tries to kill you is that it runs at you at full speed and makes an “ogogogogog” noise. What’s even worse is that once you kill it, it looks dead at first, but then it splits in half and turns into these gross, toothy corpses that try to kill you once more. These are the sort of things that made Hollow Knight (ironically) so full of life, and I’m absolutely sure that Silksong would have the same things. The enemies and NPCs already look promising, with an ice-cold warrior named Seth fighting to protect something, and another named Lace that seems overconfident in the face of battle. I can’t wait to ruthlessly murder both.

In conclusion, Hollow Knight: Silksong is a video game I am SO excited for, and I hope you all enjoyed my thoughts on it. Thank you for reading.
