Urban Farming
Urban farming is a way that people that live in big city’s can farm. The way that urban farming works is they put mini farms on tops of buildings. Urban farming was created to grow food in places with limited space.
Urban farming fun facts. Nearly all of the world’s population Farms between now and 2030 will be mostly put in urban areas in growing countries, so that by then almost 60% of people in growing countries will live in cities. Urban farming improves nutrition, as produce is fresh and less damaged when grown and distributed locally it helps out the community.
TYPES OF URBAN FARMING
A Community Garden – is a shared space in a neighborhood where many families grow food.
Street Landscaping – is a landscaped street that includes space for food production.
Riparian Forest Garden – is the corridor along an urban stream where a diverse selection of crops can be grown.
Rooftop Garden – is using space on a roof to grow food. Green roofs may help reduce urban heat islands and improve air quality.
Vertical Garden – is grown up a wall on a trellis or out of a wall using attached containers.
Urban Beekeeping– is a way to produce an agricultural product – honey!
