Cars have surprised many people with what they can contain. The American Dream, however, is a car unlike no other. It’s the longest car ever made, and has broken records, including its own.

The American Dream was made in 1986 by a widely known customizer in Burbank, California, Jay Ohrberg. This car was modeled after the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado limos, and has been featured in many Hollywood films.  Its original length was 60 feet (18.28 meters), rolling on 26 wheels. That already is a very long limo, but Ohrberg decided to extend that length by 40 feet (12.22 meters) to 100 feet (30.5 meters).

Inside the car contains many wonderous and exciting features. To start, the structure of the car contains two sections, with a hinge in between them to turn tight corners. It’s very large, able to fit 75 people, and has much luxury for those inside. The car contains several TVs, a bathtub, telephone, refrigerator, and other simple household items. Some more extravagant features include a jacuzzi, a large waterbed, a swimming pool along with a diving board, a mini-golf course, and a large helipad stabilized with helipads able to sustain up to five thousand pounds of weight. Those are just a few of the many amazing features of The American Dream.

That very same year it was made, the extremely long limo received a Guinness World Record for being the world’s longest car. On March 1, 2022, the limousine beat its own personal record after three years of restorations. The American Dream now stands at 100 feet and 1.50 inches long (30.54 meters), beating it’s older record by a fraction.

In 2019, the process of restoring a car that once stood much glory, was in full swing. Michael Manning, the owner of a technical teaching museum of the name, Autoseum, started this mission, collaborating with the owner of Dezerland Tourist Attractions, Michael Dezer, and it has quite a interesting story behind it. Years before 2019, Michael Manning had found The American Dream on an eBay listing, and developed an interest for restoring the record breaking car that was beginning to rust. Though when he wanted to buy it he stumbled across a problem, his offer was too low. Manning decided that he would partner with the sellers to restore the limo in New York at his school. Though he ran into another issue, there wasn’t enough funding for the project, so they didn’t have the money to proceed with the project. Manning decided to list the car back on eBay after he had it laying in his building in Mineola for about seven to eight years. Though that wasn’t the end of The American Dream. In 2019, Michael Dezer had found Manning’s eBay listing of the car and decided to take on the mission of restoring the famous car. Since Michael Manning was also striving to achieve this dream, he worked alongside Dezer to restore the car. It was shipped from New York to Orlando and after over $250,000 (190,725 pounds) spent over the span of three years, on March 1, 2022, the restoration of The American Dream was complete.

So it come to show that The American Dream has an amazing story to tell, with much history behind it. That was the story of The American Dream.
