Lucid, A New Electric Car That Shows Competition To Tesla
Lucid could be better than Tesla
A new car brand? Electric? Tesla competition? Possibly.
Lucid, an innovation of electric cars, having a rechargeable battery that could last up to 512 miles with all-wheel drive and a luxury interior, could live up to surpass Tesla. Lucid was founded in 2007 with the name “Atieva” and was focused on hybrid batteries and powertrains for other vehicles. The company announced they were releasing a car in 2016, coming out in 2021, and being very promising.
Coming in with price ranges, a 2022 Lucid Air (stock) has a $77,400, and The 2022 Tesla Model S plaid has a stock price of $129,999. While this much more expensive car would be expected to be better, in battery ranges, the Model S Plaid lasts around 396 miles on a full charge, while the Lucid Air lasts 512.
In a performance comparison, they surprisingly have a similar amount of horsepower, 2022 Tesla Model S Plaid: 1020. 2022 Lucid Air: 980. The Tesla Model S Plaid goes 0-60MPH in 1.9 seconds, while the 2022 Lucid Air has a 0-60MPH time of 2.4 seconds, an acceleration difference, but not worth the $40,000 price increase.
Interior-wise, the Tesla Model plaid has a stunning interior with a 17-inch display in the center console, while the Lucid Air has a display across the dashboard. With a center console screen that retracts to reveal a small wireless charging pad for your phone, Tesla shares many interior features with Lucid, but with very comfortable bucket seats and individual seat heating, charging in 30 minutes, and having a superior luxury experience.
Lucid only has one car model as of now, yet still has more sales than Tesla in the past three months. Most of this reasoning is because it has a more competitive price while having superior features that Tesla has not included yet. The Lucid Air could compare to a new design with the Tesla Model X Plaid, having a similar overhead roof and signature bucket seats that lucid has. Overall the two companies are neck to neck, having indistinguishable differences and a performance lithium-ion battery. It all comes down to price range and preference.
Center console-wise, both screens, and operating systems have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, allowing fast connectivity compatible with most modern cell phones. As both cars have no actual buttons but everything is controlled on the center console display screen and the digital dashboard that both cars have.
Warranty of any feature for the Lucid Air will be covered for 8 years, 100,000 miles. While the Tesla Model S has 8 years, 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Any failure, including the battery, would be covered at no cost.
Tesla has easy access to the car from the app, so does Lucid. Have features such as activating heating or air conditioning from your phone to finding chargers near you based on your route.
You can also watch around your vehicle because the Lucid Air has 18 cameras with vision at 300 meters, five radar units, and even a lidar unit. Eight surround cameras provide 360 degrees of visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range. Twelve updated ultrasonic sensors complement this vision, allowing for the detection of objects at nearly twice the distance of the prior system. “LIDAR”-Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing method used to examine the surface of the Earth, for mapping and making out objects in range.
