On October 15, 1997, an unbelievable event happened. The Thrust SSC, which was built by many people including Richard noble, zoomed past recorders, brought the sand and dust high up into the air. The Thrust SSC has the record for the fastest car in the world, it is the only land vehicle that has gone past the sound barrier! According to Coventry Transport Museum, this amazing vehicle weighs an entire 10.5 tons, is 16.5 m (54ft)long, and 3.7m(12ft) wide! The thing that makes the Thrust SSC so fast would be the two Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines. These gigantic engines are mostly used for jet fighters in the British Military. These powerful engines have a thrust of 50,000 lbf(lbf means a pound of force) and use an entire 18 liters of fuel per second. The speed at which it can go is 763.04 mph(1227.99 km/h), going faster than the sound barrier by 3 mph!
This is an amazing achievement that was never thought to be achievable. With technology advancing further and further this record will be broken very soon. The Bloodhound blueprint is being sold for an astronomical sum and once built, will go faster than the thrust SSC and claim the thrown for the fastest car in the world.
