The pickaxe mostly known in video games like Minecraft is a tool that has been used since prehistoric times it has had many different looks yet all for the same purpose mining. Pickaxes have been used to mine in the prehistoric, the middle ages and the 19th century even today some people still use the pickaxe.

The pickaxe was used in 1850 till 1890 to help build The Great American Railroad. The pickaxe was also used in World War One as a weapon in the trenches. Today the pickaxe is made of wood and metal. It is metal that is curved on the top and pointed on one tip to break stuff like concrete and asphalt the handle of the pick is made of wood.
