Arduino sand tables were technically originated/based off of from Japanese zen tables. The marble is controlled by a powerful magnet, and is dragged around in sand to create mesmerizing patterns. Some people call these sand tables “The Machine that Erases what it Creates.”

Underneath all the sand and wood, people build these Arduino sand tables from parts of a 3D printer, which is used to control the marble. There is a program connected to the 3D printer parts, which drags the marble around in the sand.
