According to some reports, there are over 55,000 US bridges that are in need of repair. Having bridges that are need of repair is not only dangerous but it also morally wrong. Imagine being in charge of a bridge that is need of repair and you are still allowing people to drive and/or walk across it. Then one day the bridge collapses and multiple people die. Knowing that those people could’ve been saved is going to haunt you forever. This relates to engineering because bridges are a complex structure that need to be able to hold hundreds of tons at any given moment. Bridges are engineered by people who have years of experience in creating structures that need to be able to stay upright for years to come.
