In the History of Submarines, they’ve been through a lot of designs which ultimately led to them being in today’s society. They have got a lot of purposes and uses like military use and aquatic research. Due to these reasons that’s the reason submarines are still used today. But that’s not the story we’re looking at in this article. We are going to dive into the designs of submarines and who created them, let’s start out with the first submarine.
In 1578, the first submarine which wasn’t really created or fabricated. Instead it was a drawing but never got past the design stage unfortunately. William Borne’s design was inspired by the weight tanks which adjusted the buoyancy and trim just enough under the water conditions. While his design never got manufactured, the first submarine produced was in 1620. Cornelis Drebbel manufactured a underwater vessel. It was the first to deal with the conflict of oxygen restoration while underwater. While that is very smart to address that problem, a more ideal of a submarine came along. In 1776, David Bushnell built an experiment submersible and was used by the Colonial Army. It was the first submarine to sink and emerge while being used for sea combat. Although it was never successful for Naval combat. It might be impressive but another submarine came along. In 1943, the German U-boat was invented by Wilhelm Bauer. It had an air-intake system which made the submarine being able to operate at shallow depths and recharge batteries. Despite the fact that it is a remarkable achievement, in 1958, the U.S launched the USS Albacore. It has a “tear drop” boat design for decreasing water resistance, and increased maneuverability and momentum. Finally, the modern submarine which is the Virginia class or the SSN-774 class. It’s meant for sea shore and open ocean missions. The type of submarine is called a Ship Submersible Nuclear which is what the SSN stands for.
All of these models of submarines have revolutionized over the years and led to the SSN today which is Nuclear powered! Although it seems impossible to drive underwater without some difficulty, it can be possible if you keep trying and enhance it.
