Tesla has announced a recall on nearly 46,000 Cybertrucks, after finding that a panel on the exterior of the car could lead to “increasing the risk of a crash.” This recall affects all cars manufactured from November of 2023 to February of this year, covering nearly all Cybertrucks on the road today.
The panel, what Tesla calls a “cant rail,” a small cosmetic piece that runs parallel to the drivers windshield and over the side windows of the car. According to the company, the panel is at risk of falling off from the car, because of a faulty adhesive that keeps the panel on the car’s superstructure. The solution to the adhesive issue, according to Tesla, is for them to replace it with another, more reliable version one that is immune to “environmental embrittlement,” or the conditions that lead to the previous adhesive degrading.
Cybertrucks, and Tesla as a whole, have a history of unreliable production and recalls, with many vehicles having cosmetic defects, and some even coming without major features or breaking immediately. The Cybertruck is no exception, and before this current recall there have been eight other recalls in total.
