As the structural integrity degrades the object can show signs of wear and tear, this could make the object weaker and a load that is barely above normal could destroy it. This is why it’s important to check objects for signs of damage and repair them when necessary.
Structural integrity is important in engineering because the parts are used many times and can accumulate damage over time which can lead parts to failing. People often scam others by using weak parts that will not last a long time and will break quickly to save costs. Objects are also built with purposeful failures in them so that people are forced to buy their product again.
