Brains are the most complicated organ in the body, A widespread rumor has been saying that we only use 10% of our brains. Our brains weigh 3 pounds and billions of neurons. A survey of the population was taken and nearly 70% of Americans believe that we only use 10% of our brain.
Frontiers in Human Neuroscience (A study that was published) disproved the thought that we only use 10% of our brain. Most of our brain is active 24/7: While we’re sleeping or eating. The origins of this myth are unknown but it is believed William James argued we only have a small amount of our brain.
Dale Carnegie’s book How to Win Friends and Influence People said that the myth was something his college professor used to talk about. Movies also believed the myth that we only use 105 of our brains, Movies like “Limitless” and “Lucy”.
It was believed telekinesis could be attained if more of our brain was used. The usage of the brain requires a massive amount of energy despite only being 2% of our body weight.
The myth gained traction when scientists tested the brain’s abilities and came to the conclusion we only use a small amount of our brain. Albert Einstein also could’ve said this was true as well.
There is no definite culprit for spreading such a rumor. The myth that we only use 10% of our brain is silly, we use all of it and if we didn’t we most likely won’t be around right now.
