MIT has invented a basketball hoop that will move and “shapeshift” depending on if you miss or make. There is a piezo pressure sensor in the backboard and a switch sensor in the net. The pressure sensor in the backboard knows when the backboard gets hit and tells the switch sensor to get ready. If the switch sensor doesn’t move in the next few seconds, it registers it as a miss and nothing happens to the rim or hoop. The computer registers that it was a miss. The switch sensor is in the net so if the net moves it tells the sensor that a basket has been made. The rim shrinks and the hoop is raised which tells the computer that a shot was made. The computer even graphs the shots and notes whether it was a “make” or “miss” and puts it in a chart for you to see. It is really good for if you have no one around.
