Imagine you going outside and cutting the grass with a lawnmower but then something goes into your mind, “What if instead of me working, a robot could work for me?”. If you really desperate to not do work outside with a lawnmower, then a robot lawnmower might be your choice. But I will explain the history of lawnmowers and conclude why it’s worth or not worth buying lawnmower robots.
Mow bot (1969)
https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=572516749788026
The Mow Bot was first introduced in 1969 by S Lawrence Bellinger. It was sold for $800 dollars and could function on it’s own for 3 hours and can cover up to 3,000 square feet. This first robot lawnmower works well, however it requires remote control instead of actually sitting down and idle. But today, it’s selling well with more than 13 billions of dollars when the years reaches 2032. The sales weren’t public, but this is the best to describe the sales of Mow bots. It’s currently selling just fine.
Solar Powered Lawnmower Robot [Aka, Husqvarna] (1992)
The Husqvarna lawnmower robot was originally was made by André Collens in 1992, but the solar powered lawnmower robot was later sold to Husqvarna and was appearing around 1995. It’s currently unknown of whats was the price for the first ever model. It gained popularity over the years but when the world started advancing in technology, the company started to face challenges like inflation and decline in sales. Currently, they’re doing just fine as they are making millions off of sales, but they faced hard challenges to stay alive.
Bosch Indego (2012)
This lawnmower robot is said to be “One of the first intelligent lawnmower robot.”. The Bosch Indego tracks the area that is surrounded by the grass and avoid things in it’s way, just like a vacuum robot! Instead of moving randomly on it’s own, it tracks by itself, so you can sit back and relax on this model! The sales of now in this company is also doing just fine, but not as big in sales as Mowbot and the Husqvarna.
EEVE (2019)
There’s nothing much told about this lawnmower, but I can try to explain it. Unlike other lawnmowers, it has A.I (Artificial Intelligence). The lawnmower can be used without perimeter wires. Perimeter wires are for lawnmower robots. This wire allows them to detect that this area outside if they go beyond the wire. This allows you to put the perimeter wire wherever you want to cut the grass. To explain in simpler terms for example, a lawnmower robot comes across a perimeter wire, until it touches it. When it touches the perimeter wires, the lawnmower robot goes, “Oh no, I’m out of bounds, I should go somewhere else to cut grass.”, and leaves off to cut other areas. However, you have to surround the perimeters wires around the lawnmower robots that are not advanced enough to have A.I to detect out of bounds areas. Which is why this lawnmower is very interesting.
Husqvarna (2020)
Husqvarna shines as the company has a new lawnmower robot where it has similar features to the EEVE lawnmower robot. It can track and cut grass without perimeter wires as its vision can reach 2-3 centimeters. But, they use a satelite with a reference station which is a very unique lawnmower robot.
FireFly Automatix (2023)
This company has a very unique lawnmower robot. Unlike other lawnmower robots, it’s very huge. Even though it might look like it may lose it’s battery easily, it has a very long battery life and actually functions pretty well. It also uses the satellite and the reference station as well.
Technology really has advanced over time. We went from a simple auto walking lawnmower to a lawnmower robot where it can detect it’s surrounding. Despite the coolness, the lawnmower robots are overpriced and it also takes longer for them to cut grass rather than manually cutting the grass. Unless you have a lot of money, then that’s fine. But cutting the grass by yourself is more efficient and you’ll finish the job quicker.
