Europe. The land of tiny countries and delicious food.
But that might not last. With the war in Ukraine raging, Europe needs a plan to fight back against Russia’s advancing technology if they’re attacked. Enter the EMBT, Europe’s next planned MBT.
The EMBT is a strange concept. It’s technically a derivative of the Leopard 2, one of the most popular tanks ever made, as it uses the 40-year-old vehicle’s chassis. However, the turret has been completely facelifted and equipped with a 140mm cannon, something that has not yet been seen on the battlefield.
Along with this utterly massive main cannon, the EMBT is equipped with a 30mm autocannon mounted on the roof of the vehicle. This is a great idea, considering that 30mm autocannons were heavily implemented by the Soviet Union during the cold war, and a lot of Eastern European nations have large stockpiles of Soviet weapons from the cold war. This could also help with battlefield ammo salvaging in a potential war with Russia.
The final interesting bit about the vehicle is the usage of AI in its fire control system. This could potentially assist gunners on the battlefield with target acquisition, tracking, and neutralization.
Hopefully the EMBT won’t be sacrificed to the red-tape gods in the EU, but one can never be too sure. If it is pressed into service, however, the EMBT will certainly add an extra layer of defense to any combat in the future.
