Green walls are walls of a building that have plants on them. They have many benefits such as improving the mental health of those around the green wall, reducing the temperature of the city, and obviously helping the climate. There are more very good benefits for green walls but they also have some cons like, high cost, they require a lot of maintenance, and they are a fire risk, but these costs that come with green walls are worth it.
Green walls have lots of very good benefits, they benefit humans, the city’s environment, and the climate. Green walls benefit human health in various ways. One way is that they benefit the mental health of nearby inhabitants, greenery helps to boost people’s mood in a mostly concrete landscape. There was also a study that hospital patients with a green wall within their view recovered faster than those who didn’t. Another benefit would be to the city’s environment, the added biodiversity from the walls would massively boost human cities’ already fragile ecosystems. Another thing would be how they cool down the surrounding environment because of a phenomenon that causes cities to get hotter, green walls would cool the surrounding area and make it more pleasant. The benefits to the climate are obvious the plants take in carbon monoxide, which is bad for the environment, and release oxygen, which is good for humans.
Now, some disadvantages of green walls do exist, but they are a worthy price to pay for what they contribute to a city. One disadvantage is that they are costly to maintain and require lots of upkeep. Another is that they are a fire risk. Both of these major disadvantages are negated by the many more advantages of green walls.
Green walls have many benefits, but they have downsides that need to be fixed before we can have whole green cities. Although they have costs, they are worth it. Green walls don’t have to be walls, either; there are various other things that do the same job, like rooftop gardens. A well-maintained green wall would also be very aesthetically pleasing, but that’s just another benefit on top of the mountains of benefits they already have.
