After 4 years of excavation the “Lost City of Gold” has been fully excavated. This city is named Aten and was a thriving gold mining settlement. This city is close to 3,000 years old and is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries since the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Archaeologists were amazed at how well-preserved the city is. The team of archaeologists also found a mining camp. The camp had different stations to process and extract the gold. Lots of pottery and stone shards were found at this excavation site.
The site was first found when archaeologists in Egypt were trying to find the remains of King Tutankhamun’s funerary temple. They were searching near an area known as the Valley of Kings when they saw this lost city. This discovery is very important as it lets us better understand how ancient Egyptians extracted gold from rocks. It lets us understand more about the gold mining industry in ancient Egypt and more about the workers. All in all, this is a significant discovery that lets us understand more about ancient Egypt and the people who lived.
