The first ever swimming fins were made of two pieces of small wood. The pieces of wood were shaped to look like an art palette. He made the fins to fit his ankles, hand, and feet. Ben Franklin’s swimming fins were used as the model for the fins we use and make today. He also said they fatigued his fists after use. During Ben Franklin’s lifetime, he was a postmaster, an ambassador, an author, a printer, a scientist, and a Founding Father. Fins have evolved to the modern one you see today. People say that they gain holes in their feet from the incessant rubbing. Fins are duck-like adaptations that allow people to power through heavy surf and through fast peaks. In the 15th century Leonardo Da Vinci made experiments with multiple different things to improve humans physical condition. Ben Franklin strapped pieces of wood to his feet and increased speed and efficiency in the water. Frenchman Louis De Corlieu developed the modern swim fin in the early 1900’s and eventually know as swimming propellers used in naval applications. Swimming fins had many advancements over the years and was revolutionary to the human advancement.
