An unarmed Minuteman III missile was launched into the air at 1 a.m. Pacific time on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from Vandenberg Space Force Base. Wednesday’s test launch is just one way the U.S. air force demonstrates the readiness, precision, and professionalism of U.S. nuclear forces. Over 300 similar tests have been conducted in the past; officials said that the 377th test has been conducted.
The Minuteman missile was developed in 1962 as a replacement for the Titan missile. It was the first solid-fueled ICBM ever deployed, and this technology brought about a revolution in missile development.
