On January 5th, 2024, an incident occurred during a flight involving a Boeing plane where one of its doors was ripped off. This happened because the door plug was not secured properly, which caused the cabin to lose pressure. The situation was intense enough that a child’s shirt got torn off his body and flew into the cockpit door.
Although the police were on the lookout for the missing door plug, they only managed to find a couple of phones that survived a drop from 16,000 feet. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew. This was because the seats next to the door were empty, which helped avoid even more serious issues.
As of now, the cause of the incident seems to be either an improper installation of the door plug or a loose fastener. There is still uncertainty about who is responsible, but it’s worth mentioning that while Boeing designs the planes, the parts like the door plug and fuselage are made by a different company called Spirit Aero-Systems. More details will hopefully emerge soon to clarify the situation.
