2024 YKR
This is an asteroid about half the size of the Statue of Liberty (196 feet). It has a 3.1% of hitting Earth and is 27 million miles away. It is said to hit Earth around December 2032 and to get very close to Earth on December 22, 2032. NASA says that it will most likely miss our planet, and even if it were to hit our planet it is only a tiny percent of hitting a very populated area and will most likely hit the water and not affect humans if it were to hit the earth.
Depending on what material the asteroid is, our atmosphere might remove some chunks of it and spread the pieces out and some of the piece will get burned up in the atmosphere. if it were a different type of material it would go through the atmosphere and hit earth without getting cut up. If NASA were to say that the asteroid will hit earth they have the power to chance the path of the asteroid or destroy the asteroid completely with rockets like they did in 2022 with Dimorphos. So most likely the asteroid will miss earth but if it will hit earth we can deflect it of destroy it and if it were to hit earth it most likely not hit a extremely populated area.
