In 2015, China found a giant 33-foot fossil in the Formation of Yunnan Province, China. The newly discovered species has been named Xingxiulong yueorum, and experts think it was an early Jurassic sauropod dinosaur. A sauropod was a very large herbivorous dinosaur with a long neck and tail, a tiny head, and massive limbs. The fossil is an extremely important one because it has a well-preserved dinosaur skeleton, including its backbone. The dinosaur specimen is an amazing opportunity to study the body, structure, and behavior of this species from long ago.
The extinct dinosaur was a long-necked beast that walked the Earth during the early Jurassic period, which lasted from about 201.3 to 174.1 million years ago. This new species belongs to the Xingxiulong genus, sharing some traits with another previously found fossil, Xingxiulong chengi. Although it shares some aspects with Xingxiulong chengi, scientists have noted that this dinosaur has many unique characteristics, such as the presence of four very large sacral vertebrae, a slightly flatter edge on its ankle bone, the astragalus, and a unique two-part toe. In conclusion, China has found a fossil that could be crucial to us understanding more about dinosaurs and answering lots of questions.
