On Monday, a Delta Airlines CRJ-900 flipped upside down on the runway at Toronto Pearson Airport. Luckily, all 80 passengers survived, but a few had minor injuries. The cause of the airplane flipping over on the runway is still unknown. Many of the passengers said that the flight crew’s training had them responding to the incident in a very professional way. Toronto Pearson Airport was also prepared for a crash like this, and they responded to the crash quickly. All of the passengers made it out of the burning wreckage after the plane landed, then flipped over and burst into flames.
Now, what caused the airplane to flip over is still unknown, but the pilot said that it might have been a bump of air on the runway, but that is speculation. The CRJ-900 handles bad weather very well, but there was no bad weather, and their approach had been normal, it was only when they touched down that things started to go wrong. The transitions between ATC and the pilots were nothing out of the ordinary. However, one of the passengers reported that the landing had been “very forceful”. Before the Delta plane landed Toronto Pearson Airport had been experiencing severe winter weather with lots of ice, snow, and wind, but the runway was dry, and there were no crosswinds when the plane landed.
