The history of string instruments can be dated back to 13,000 B.C. Some of the earliest instruments were harps and lyres. These instruments were typically used in Middle Eastern Asia, and ancient Greece in the 12-13 century. Moving on, the Ravanastron was an instrument used in about 2,500-5,000 B.C. in Sri Lanka this instrument is still being made and played today! String instruments have changed over the countries in which they were created. For example, the Ekar was a one-string instrument, the Dutar was a 2 stringed instrument, and the Sitar was a three-stringed instrument. These 3 instruments are very similar but change in the number of strings according to their name. Now we move on to the most famous type of string instrument, the violin. The violin was first made in around 1550 by Adrea Amati in Italy. The design of the violin has changed multiple times before the violin we have today. One notable violin maker or luthier, was Antonio Stradivari. Stradivari’s violins also known as Stradivarius violins are the most prized and expensive violins because of their sound, rarity, and build quality. Today we have electric string instruments that amplify the sound of these instruments that can’t produce a sound that loud.
